CMA votes to ban MMA outcome: MMA is not like skiing

After a meeting in Niagara Falls, Ontario the Canadian Medical Association is trying to push for banning Mixed Martial Arts across Canada. Currently the sport is legal in British Columbia and illegal in Ontario. If the CMA has it’s way, they’ll convince the government to ban MMA outright.

Their argument is that the point of MMA is to incapacitate your opponent and that MMA is unlike skiing and hockey. Yep, you read that right. The CMA is arguing that “unlike sports like hockey and skiing, the intent of mixed martial arts is to incapacitate one’s opponent.”

Well holy hell there CMA, you guys are a bunch of geniuses. MMA is completely different from hockey AND skiing. I’d say it has more in common with boxing though. You know, that other sport where you stand around punching each other in the face. Let’s be honest though, if you’re going to ban MMA you’re going to have to ban everything that comprises MMA. You know Martial Arts. Unlike straight up underground “fight clubs” MMA has rules. And you generally have to be good at it to even be considered for the jump from localized tournaments (each form of MMA - boxing, tae kwan do, ju jit su, etc. has its own tournaments).

Likely to happen? Probably not. But you will be hearing about MMA a lot more.
