Dry water? You mean.. that's not ice?
Go science.
Apparently we’ve now been able to create “dry” water. It’s essentially still wet water (or you know, water) but surrounded by silica, effectively making it the smallest water balloon ever.
Why is this important? Apparently it’s phenomenal at soaking up CO2 (will help with the fake/real greenhouse warming effect). Not just that, but it speeds up reactions...

Er... woof?
I like to think that dogs are just really really retarded wolves (while some may find my description offensive, just change it to whatever you want that still has the same connotation. I’m tired of thinking about how to be politically correct). And they are not just retarded wolves, but actually bred for their retardedness (retardability?). Scientists tend to agree with me. While focussing...

Priority Inbox - Why Gmail is Awesome
Gmail just rolled out a new feature called “Priority Inbox”. Basically it ranks and organizes your email based on how important it thinks a certain sender is. That way emails you NEED to respond to are not lost in the 100’s of emails and notifications you receive daily. The Priority Inbox ranking algorithm seems to take into account not just who emails you most (although it will...

You pay for auto insurance, Government steps in,...
As of tomorrow morning some new things come into effect for those of you with cars. Your coverage is now half of what it used to be! Yay! Apparently in an effort to grant MORE options to users, the government forced insurance places to have a lower minimum and a higher maximum. While the intentions WERE good, here’s how it’s already shaping up: You pay more for less. Insurance...

Rocco's Recall
Mayoral hopeful Rocco Rossi is proposing a new solution to the age old “politicians lie” problem. At least, a new solution to Ontario. Once voted into office, if the people aren’t happy with a particular politician, they can vote to pull him out of office. Currently British Columbia already imposes this with a 40% rule. As in, if 40% of the people who voted during the election in...

Convicted murderer tricked by cop. Lawyers go...
Taking a page out of a movie, an nameless police officer went undercover to trick a murderer into confessing. The officer pretended she was trying to write a book about Phillip Vince, getting him to say that he committed yet another murder while in prison. He was supposed to get out on parole soon, and if convicted, he should spend some more time behind bars.
While the police do pose as gangsters...

401 Littered with body parts.
In probably one of the most gruesome accidents this year (and possibly even this decade to date) a girl was thrown off the back of a motorcycle and hit by multiple cars this weekend.
The driver was apparent weaving through traffic erradically and cops tried to pull him over. He then tried to oturun cops, accelerating rapidly. This caused his passenger, a girl who is yet unamed, to be thrown off...

Stacked rinks plan missing something... like money
Toronto’s waterfront plans now include an estimated 88 million dollar, 4 level glass hockey arena. I’m not sure where we’re getting 88 million dollars to build a hockey arena for kids in a place kids don’t go, but there it is. It’s been likened to Sydneys Opera House.
Note that by the time it’s done, Jerry Agar figures it’s going to be about 2 years late...

The Archer Fish
Image if you will the peaceful waters of a river. Flowing gently around you as you sit in your boat and lazily drift about. As your boat drifts below some low hanging mangrove trees you notice a small caterpillar on a low hanging branch. Suddenly a jet of water shoots out of the lake, smacks said caterpillar off the branch and then a fish eats it.
Wait, what? Meet the Archerfish. A fish who has...

Toronto gets patriotic erection
A 3.5 million dollar erection actually - courtesy of Giorgio Mammoliti and his friends at city council. Mr. Mammoliti has managed to convince everyone that Toronto needs the biggest dick joke in North America at Finch and Arrow Road.
How does this help us? Who knows! It’s not like we’re going to get a lot of tourists coming in to see our massive pole. People aren’t going to...

Toronto is getting a Panda
Or at least we’re lobbying for the right to lobby for one. Sheesh, talk about politics. Apparently having a Panda in the Toronto Zoo is going to bring in something like 250 Million CDN. Or at least that’s the projected benefit. First the zoo and Mr. Giorgio Mammoliti is going to be fronting some initial cash to try and send a group to China to ask if we can have a Panda, pretty please...

Your Triceratops has evolved
So according to scientists there’s no such thing as a triceratops. Apparently they are actually the juvenile form of the Torosaurus. Huh.
Apparently scientists have only ever discovered elder Torosaur bones and young Triceratops bones - then a bunch of people put two and two together when they found a skull that looked like both. Running backwards through various archives they found a lot...

New study looks for shade in Toronto -...
If you ever need another reason to show you that Toronto is just hemmoraging money take a look at this study recently sanctioned by the City of Toronto.
They hired people to go around and take a look at how much shade is provided in public parks. Apparently “It was certainly confirming a hunch,” as George Thomas Kapelos of Ryerson puts it. What hunch exactly would that be? The fact that...

It's perfectly legal to download and burn music -...
Due to some foresight on the part of our Canadian lawmakers (for once it seems) Canadians are allowed to download music and television shows as long as they store them on CD’s or DVD’s. This is because in Canada there is a fee imposed on DVD’s and CD’s since people figure the only reason you are buying them is to burn music and movies.

62nd Annual Emmy Roundup
With the Emmy’s fast approaching (Monday the 29th!) let’s take a look at some of the nominations, and my predictions for winners.
Outstanding Comedy Series - Modern Family Modern Family made a splash with their first season, easily becoming one of the funniest shows around. After all, they get to play with all the stereotypes and get to make all the corresponding jokes… except...

Ford ahead, are the other councillors daft?
With the Toronto mayoral race continuing its stead snail like pace, it looks like we already have a clear winner. Councillor Rob Ford from Etobicoke North is pulling ahead in all kinds of polls and there’s a clear reason. People are tired of all the money being spent on useless crap by council. $12,000 CDN for a party for councillor Kyle Rae was pulled out of taxes and Ford is publicly...

The Expendables
Let’s make no mistake, The Expendables is an action movie for everyone. Action movies now days feature three main things.
An effeminate male lead who can’t seem to string together a sentence.
A way-to-curvy-how-does-she-not-have-back-problems female for the guys.
Explosions.
The Expendables does away with numbers 1 and 2 leaving behind exactly what action movies should be. A bunch...

Understanding 3D technology
Ever wonder how they do it? There are actually 3 major types of 3D technology being pioneered right now - Anaglyph, Eclipse and Autostereroscopic.
Anaglyph Simple enough. These are the older style, rarely seen anymore except on the backs of cereal boxes. Two images, one red and one green and slightly offset from each other. You are given a pair of glasses, one lens is red the other is blue. The...

CMA votes to ban MMA outcome: MMA is not like...
After a meeting in Niagara Falls, Ontario the Canadian Medical Association is trying to push for banning Mixed Martial Arts across Canada. Currently the sport is legal in British Columbia and illegal in Ontario. If the CMA has it’s way, they’ll convince the government to ban MMA outright.
Their argument is that the point of MMA is to incapacitate your opponent and that MMA is unlike...

Stale doughnut tax imposed on New Yorkers
Here’s something interesting, in New York (state) it’s cheaper to buy a bagel, take it outside and then slice it as opposed to letting your local delicatessen or bakery do it for you. This is becuase of a law that imposes a strange tax depending on if the bagel is “prepared” and if it’s eaten on the premises. Oddly enough it was never enforced by anyone.
Until now....
